KIDSBOOKS | THE WONKY TOY BLOCK

There was once a toy block
The kind that’s in a set
Of twenty blocks all sharp and square
Some blue and others red

Bendy Block stood starkly out
Because she was quite grey
She also had one dented edge
That made her lean sideways

While the other blocks climbed up
To build a tunnel or a house
Bendy would lean back and watch
As timid as a mouse

She’d straighten to ninety degrees
From the surface where she sat
But within a minute or two
She’d slowly lean right back

One day the building blocks all heard
A loud crash from within
The family photo had fallen down
With a mighty gust of wind

The glass was whole but the stand
Had broken into two
The lady tried to mend the break
With a tube of super glue

But that didn’t work so she looked
Around for inspiration
She spied the bendy little block
And used it for elevation

The photo with its smiling faces
Stands again up on the dresser
Bendy is the happy prop
As the frame now leans back on her.

KIDSBOOKS | GOLDEN REPAIR

Golden Repair or Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum.

There was once a china mug
He was some twelve years old
He’d done his job dutifully
Holding drinks both hot and cold

Over the years the china mug
Had seen his share of strain
His rim was chipped in two places
He had permanent tea stains

But he was quite a trooper
He never ceased to smile
Even when the bright new mugs
Would tease him all the while.

One day the lady of the house
Was wiping down the sink
Her hand brushed by the china mug
And down he went crashing!

He lay in six odd pieces
Across the kitchen floor
The lady scooped them all up
And put them in a drawer

Ten days later the other mugs
Saw a creature most divine!
A pretty china mug laced
With delicate golden lines.

“It’s me the old china mug”
He said smiling at their stares
I’ve just been mended gently
with love and Golden Repair.

Amd so it is with old things
Friendships, mugs and toys
With Love and care, gentle repair
They bring constant joy.
